Combat Medic / EMT-B

Course Description

​The Combat Medic / EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) Course is an intensive and demanding course which has been developed to provide participants with the essential knowledge, skills and to qualify them to provide emergency/trauma care and manage patients prior to emergency evacuation. Building on an existing First Aid at Work qualification, this 14 day course presents participants with the opportunity to further extend their skills and knowledge to competently deliver an enhanced level of care to the sick and injured in emergency and extreme situations. 


The course syllabus covers the following areas:​

 

  • Preparing to be an EMT

  • Airway management

  • Patient assessment

  • Medical emergencies

  • Trauma emergencies

  • Paediatric emergencies

  • Geriatric emergencies

  • EMS operations

  • ALS techniques.

  • IHCD FPOS-I

  • BATLS - Battle Advanced Trauma Life Support (pre-Afghan deployment training for combat medics) including subjects such as but not limited to: battlefield analgesia, prolonged field care, casualty transfer, introduction to FAST, EZIO, burns, Haemostatics, CELOX, field resus, immobilisation including pelvic splints, airways including cricothyrotomy, chest drains, giving sets, needle decompression, canulation, medical gases, immobilisation.​

Target Audience​

Individuals who already hold an existing First Aid at Work qualification.

FPOS-I - Pearsons IHCD BTEC Edexcel 

BATLS - Certification from STORM Det.

​Certification
Successful participants will gain an AREMT accredited Emergency Medical Technician Basic award and will become eligible to apply for international registration as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic. In addition to this award, successful students will gain the FPOS-I Certification, awarded by IHCD BTEC Edexcel. A BATLS certificate from STORM Det will also be issued for the combat medic element of the course.

Duration​

Students undertake a minimum of 80 hours of supported pre-course study (E-learning) followed by 9 intensive days of classroom based training consisting of theory and scenario based practical work. The summative assessment takes place once the E-learning and Classroom based elements have been completed. A 5 day field internship / clinical attachment can then completed at a time which is conducive to the student but has to be completed to apply for international registration.

E-Learning based element - at home, in your own time over a period of 80 hours.

Classroom based element - Glasgow, UK at our purpose built Counter-Terrorism Compound & Med Wing.

Field Internship / Clinical Attachment - Mostar University Hospital, Bosnia.

Price

Individual course booking - £2400 inclusive of VAT.

This price includes the E-learning package, the 9 day classroom based element and the 5 day internship fee in Mostar, Bosnia. The price also includes registration, course material, examination fees, certificates, basic food and accommodation for the 9 day classroom based element and the fees to Mostar University Hospital. The only extra cost for the student is travel and accomodation costs in Mostar.  We can provide details for accommodation at a very competitive price.
